This compact family SUV has brought sophistication and safety to a whole new level in the automotive industry. Starting from £45,920 the new XC60 went on sale in September 2017. Unlike the majority of its main rivals the Volvo focuses more on Comfort and Safety rather than a sporty feel which makes it a lot less dynamic than most of its rivals such as the Mercedes GLC. Instead the XC60 comes with plenty of technology to assist you on the roads, and enjoys a much more comfortable drive than models like the BMW X3.
The Inscription Pro comes with a vast choice of engines available. You can get it with a Petrol engine, a Diesel or a Hybrid. The Petrol T5 is a thirsty 2.0 twin turbocharged engine with 250bhp while the Diesel engine comes either as a D4 or a D5 which increases BHP from 190 to 235. This engine brings both performance and economy and is the bestselling version in the UK. Last but not least is a T8 hybrid engine which has 401 BHP and will take the car from 0-60 in 4.9 seconds which will give Audi SQ5 drivers a run for their money! As well as the inscription pro the Volvo comes in either an R design or Momentum specification. The Momentum is the basic model with the R design being the middle ground. The Inscription is the top of the range model, and comes packed with the latest gadgets and tech which really sets it apart from rivals.
From an interior design and quality point of view, the XC60 leads the class. This is another stunning Volvo interior, dominated, as usual, by a large nine-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen in the centre of the dash where the Satnav and Media system are controlled. There is a generous amount of Space as well with decent storage and large Driver door bins. There is a 505 Litre boot, which is large for its class and comes as standard with a power tail gate.
The inscription Pro comes with Leather seats which are ventilated as standard to keep the driver cool on a hot day. The seats are also heated and come with a massage function. There is mood lighting as well that can be changed depending on your driving style. The quality of the cabin is an exceptional standard as different trims of wood can be found around the interior. The Inscription rides on Air suspension which turns the UK pothole surfaced roads into a magic carpet like effect.
Being a Volvo the safety features of the car have not failed to exceed expectations. NCAP ratings have remained at 5 stars and there is an abundance of safety kit available. This car will steer you back into your lane if it spots something in your blind spot you haven’t noticed and can sense pedestrians and cyclists and will apply the emergency breaks if it believes that the driver will not be able to stop the car in time.
Volvo have shown us that they are capable of upgrading the XC60 to the standards of the XC90. This has come at a cost and prices are far more than previous models. That said this would be my medium size SUV choice as the improved Tech and Comfort take it a league beyond the competition.
